Testing a New Creatinine Meter for Foals

We are testing a new, bedside meter to measure creatinine in foals. Creatinine helps show us how healthy the kidneys are. Traditional tests at a lab require about a teaspoon of blood, while this meter uses only a drop.

This meter is currently used for humans and goats. We hope to prove it is also accurate for foals so it might become a useful tool in hospital and field settings.

Eligibility: Any foal seen by the Equine Hospital that has an IV catheter placed or needs blood sampled for clinical reasons is eligible to enroll in the study.
