Petco Foundation funds cancer treatments at Cornell Vet
As part of a long-standing partnership with the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, the Petco Foundation is investing a $75,000 grant that subsidizes the cost of cancer treatments for dogs and cats.
Since partnering with Cornell in 2016 to fight pet cancer, the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo have invested $575,000 to Cornell for treatment and research, assisting 210 families thus far. The latest grant will help bolster the “Petco Foundation & Blue Buffalo Pet Cancer Treatment Fund,” which is available at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals to owners who otherwise could not afford the cost of treating pets diagnosed with cancer.
“Cancer affects a large number of dogs and cats, which often presents families with difficult choices. We’re grateful to the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo for providing these funds for treatment and research that will be key to giving families more time with their beloved pets,” said Dr. Cheryl Balkman, oncology section chief at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals.
“Pet cancer is the #1 disease-related killer of dogs and cats, and a devastating diagnosis for pet parents who cannot afford treatment for their pets. With all the strides being made in the veterinary oncology field increasing treatment options for our pets, our goal is to make these lifesaving treatments available to more pets and their pet parents,” said Susanne Kogut, president of the Petco Foundation. “We're proud to support Cornell University. Not only are these funds changing the lives of pets and pet parents, but they're improving the outlook for veterinarian professionals who can help even more pets when costs might otherwise preclude such treatment.”
