Accreditation

Accreditation is a process by which an educational institution or program submits to a voluntary, non-governmental review to determine whether it meets accepted standards of quality. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education develops these standards and conducts reviews for DVM program in the United States. The standards that a veterinary school must meet to be fully accredited can be found  online here: AVMA COE Standards of Accreditation.

North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE)

The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE), administered by the ICVA since 2000, is a requirement for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in all licensing jurisdictions in the US and Canada.

The Council on Education expects that 80% or more of each college’s graduating veterinary students sitting for the NAVLE will have passed at the time of graduation.
