Paul Mountan, DVM

Paul MountanDr. Paul Mountan has been a member of the Zweig Committee since 1995 and has been an equine veterinarian for 40 years.

He attended Cornell University and was a member of their polo team that won the National Intercollegiate Championships in 1963 and was the MVP of the National Intercollegiate Polo Championship Tournament in 1964.

During his college years, Dr. Mountan worked as a groom and trainer at a polo club near his home and then later at Hobeau Farms in Ocala, Florida with Elmer Hubeck, Jr.

Dr. Mountan graduated from Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1966 and spent the following year working with Dr. M.B. Teigland caring for thoroughbreds and working the race tracks and farms in and around Miami.

In 1967, Dr. Mountan returned to New York to work in the Dutchess County town of Rhinebeck with Dr. Ronnie Miller. The practice has since grown to include eight veterinarians of which he is the senior partner and is now called Rhinebeck Equine. Rhinebeck Equine is a full service equine hospital with an ambulatory practice that covers four counties in the Hudson Valley.

For more than 35 years, Dr. Mountain and his wife, Dale, a life-long horsewoman, have been operating a thoroughbred breeding, lay-up and retirement horse farm and a Jack Russell terrier rescue.

Dr. Mountan has served as a member of the Equine Practice Committee of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society as well as the Equine Advisory Committee to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell.
