Biography/Professional Experience

Dr. FitzMaurice is the Veterinary Curriculum Director for the College of Veterinary Medicine and a Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.  As Veterinary Curriculum Director, she works with faculty, staff and students to coordinate and improve the veterinary curriculum.  Her teaching interests include active learning, assessment of learning, and educational technology. 

Dr. FitzMaurice is involved in several DVM courses including:

  • VTMED 5220, Neuroanatomy: Dr. FitzMaurice is the course leader of this first year veterinary foundation course. She utilizes an active and interactive lecture format to present content in an applied clinical context. 
  • Foundation Courses I, The Animal Body, is a multidisciplinary course covering anatomy, histology, embryology and radiology. Dr. FitzMaurice lectures, facilitates small group, problem-based learning sessions, provides instruction in gross anatomy and histology laboratories, writes examinations, and serves on the course design group that manages the course.
  • Foundation Course III, Function and Dysfunction, is a multidisciplinary course covering physiology, pharmacology and pathology. Dr. FitzMaurice has served as a facilitator for small group sessions and serves on the course design group that manages the course.
  • Special Project Courses on topics including Reflective Journaling and Animal Health Innovation
