Abstract:

Viral glycoproteins play many roles in the infection process, such as entry, egress, and immune modulation. These are dynamic processes to which both host and viral factors contribute. Understanding the roles of viral glycoproteins can assist in the development of new antivirals and vaccines. This research aims to investigate protein functions and interactions in the context of infection. Chapters 2 and 3 of this research first focuses on illuminating novel protein functions for both henipaviruses and influenza viruses. Chapters 4 and 5 focus on understanding infection dynamics in the context of SARSCoV-2. Chapter 6 investigates the use of membrane-targeting antivirals as a viral inactivator in the context of vaccine production. These studies contribute to a broader understanding of how viral glycoproteins contribute to infection dynamics.
