Applying New Technology

An artistic representation of data and machine learning

The college is dedicated to setting the standard for use of digital technology and infrastructure in veterinary medicine and research. Cornell University’s AI Inititiave and Empire AI offer unique opportunities for collaboration across the university and New York State. To sustain this goal, the college will continue to focus on:

Leveraging AI and data science in veterinary medicine and public health

  • Develop and incorporate AI and data science into the veterinary curricula and provide laboratories with the necessary hardware and software for teaching and research.
  • Create an innovation hub to promote AI practices that will generate impactful scholarship via conferences and publications.
  • Develop a continuously improving, flexible structure for all college digital data, such as a fully integrated repository for all images, pathology results, telemetry, and clinical instrument output. Cloud computing platforms will be used to facilitate large-scale processing and analysis and create holistic epidemiological models.
  • Implement a system for gathering feedback from CVM community to continually refine the AI and data science integration.
  • Design and deliver ethics courses that specifically address the ethical implications of AI and data science in veterinary medicine and public health. Ensure that students and faculty are educated about and adhere to relevant regulations and standards, such as data privacy and animal welfare guidelines.
  • Allocate resources for faculty training, infrastructure development, and research grants related to AI and data science.
