Research

The four main pillars of research in BMS are cancer biology, reproductive sciences & health, genetics & genome function, and comparative anatomy & physiology. Research labs in the department are often focused on more than one of these areas and frequently leverage mammalian models of veterinary and human disease, as well as cutting-edge methods in imaging, stem cells, and bioinformatics & computational biology. Faculty procure funding from many external sources, including federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and National Science Foundation (NSF), as well as many non-federal entities such as private foundations and research societies/associations.
