The Cornell Feline Health Center is a global leader in the improvement of feline health, achieving much of its mission through a dedicated focus on education. Committed to equipping veterinary professionals and cat lovers with vital, up-to-date feline-focused health information, the Center stands out for its proactive and innovative approach to this crucial aspect of our mission.

Education is integral to our initiatives, and we take the provision of timely and accurate information to our stakeholders seriously. By promoting public awareness of feline health-related issues, the Center cultivates responsible practices and advocates for the improved health of all cats.

An excellent example of our educational focus is the quarterly educational webinars that we provide to both our DVM professional and individual supporting members. Launched in December of 2022, this exclusive membership benefit has been very well received and is consistent with our noble mission.

These hour-long interactive webinars, provided by residents in training at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, have thus far covered a wide variety of topics, including feline cardiomyopathies, ocular disease, feline coronavirus, surgical management of feline urinary tract disease, and more. They are hosted in a virtual format and are archived so that members who cannot attend them in real time can view them at their convenience. This bank of archived webinars will continue to grow and serve as an outstanding educational resource for all current and future Center members.

Another unique educational benefit that our individual members receive is our monthly video blog (vlog) series, titled “Bruce Blogs.” These informal installments that focus on a wide variety of timely feline-health-related topics are provided by Bruce Kornreich, D.V.M '92, Ph.D. '05, DACVIM, Director of the Center. Topics covered thus far include feline diabetes therapies, the diagnosis and management of feline asthma, the role that cat owners play in combatting antibiotic resistance, the importance of feline vaccinations, the management of feline arthritis, and much more. Delivered directly to members’ inboxes and informed by Dr. Kornreich’s considerable clinical and scientific experience, these vlogs are a fun and impactful way to connect with and inform our cherished individual members.

Another way that we strive to achieve our educational mission is through the delivery of monthly health tips to both our members and to non-member feline enthusiasts who have expressed a desire to receive them. These tips are sent via e-mail and are customized for veterinary professionals and non-veterinary audiences, with the former receiving updates on recently published feline focused research and the latter receiving timely communications that are composed in a manner they can understand. While useful information is offered to both members and non-members through these communications, both veterinary professional and non-veterinary members receive more in-depth information than non-members, which we hope will motivate non-members to join us in or mission by becoming supporting members.
