Brief Biography:

Gayatri grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and completed her undergraduate degree at Penn State. In college, she spent summers at the National Aviary’s Teaching Hospital, Tristate Bird Rescue and Research’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Forgotten Cats, and Penn State’s Dairy Barns. Gayatri was an undergraduate researcher at Penn State’s Animal Diagnostic Laboratory, and her Schreyer Honors thesis, under the mentorship of Dr. Bhushan Jayarao, focused on developing a field-level diagnostic assay to detect infectious coryza in chickens. In her free time, Gayatri enjoys reading, watching movies and sports, playing the violin, and dancing Bharatnatyam.

B.S. in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences with a minor in One Health, The Pennsylvania State University, 2022

Research interest Statement: (3-4 sentences):

Gayatri is interested in genomics, infectious disease research, geospatial mapping, and diagnostic assay development. In the future, she would like to become a veterinary epidemiologist and use her clinical and research training in a public health setting.
