Biomedical Research Training
A Place for Discovery
For students with a passion for research and discovery, Cornell is the perfect place to be. Our program allows D.V.M. students to participate in state-of-the-art basic, clinical and translational life sciences research alongside our world-renowned faculty, and to take advantage of our connections to myriad research programs across our Ithaca campus and with the Weill Cornell Medical College campus in New York City.
Available Programs
Combined D.V.M./Ph.D. program pathway
This pathway lets you merge your formal clinical training with the university's internationally-recognized Ph.D. science programs, with the advantage of full tuition support. Others may simply choose to augment their D.V.M. training with shorter-term projects in our college's key areas of research, including cancer, cardiovascular biology, epidemiology, infection and immunity, genetics and genomics, neuroscience and reproductive biology, among many other health-related and biomedical sciences.
Veterinary Investigators Program (VIP)
This 10-week summer program provides incoming Cornell students and first- and second-year veterinary students with biomedical research projects with a college faculty mentor. Cornell D.V.M. students are encouraged to apply, but a limited number of spaces are also reserved for external veterinary students.
Leadership Program for Veterinary Students at Cornell University
This summer research program provides veterinary students with faculty-guided research projects alongside modules, workshops and group discussions. The program encourages responsible leadership, critical thinking and teamwork skills along with career counseling aimed at promoting the professional development of program alumni as independent scientists and public health professionals.
