What is the Cornell Veterinary Biobank? 

A biobank stores samples from humans, plants or animals — ultimately working to bridge the gap between patient care and innovations in clinical research. 

To aid research, Cornell’s Biobank collects samples from both ill and healthy animals, which can then be used to accelerate biomedical research. Since more than 3,000 animal disorders have a genetic basis, and half of those are potential models of human disease, the samples create a living library that scientists can use to understand the origins of different disorders. In doing so, researchers can also pinpoint targets for new treatments.

The Cornell Veterinary Biobank is the first biobank in the world to earn international accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, which assesses laboratories using criteria developed by the International Organization for Standardization.
