Renewing Facilities and Infrastructure

AHDC building outside view

Through the decades, we have adapted to the changes in medicine, science and education, and will continue this crucial process as we look to the future. The next five years will be a time for building and renovation to support strategic priorities, with an emphasis on sustainability and creative renewal of existing buildings whenever possible. Our objectives include:

Facility renovations and additions

  • Complete a comprehensive space-planning project for the CUHA to guide future hospital facilities renovations and clinical construction.
  • Renovate the Veterinary Research Tower while adhering to the highest standards of sustainable engineering, architecture and design. This project will upgrade all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, including elevators.
  • Expand AHDC space to support diagnostic testing, research and development and workforce training by adding a 26,000 square feet addition to the main AHDC building.
  • Renew teaching spaces by improving accessibility in Lecture Halls 1, 2 and 3 and establishing state-of-the-art AI laboratories equipped with necessary hardware and software for teaching, research and development.
  • Work with campus partners, including the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the Atkinson Center for Sustainability to install an experimental anaerobic digester near the Teaching Dairy Barn.

Network improvements

  • Enhance the CVM wired network to improve operational and support efficiency.
  • Develop secure and centralized data repositories for medical and scientific data.
  • Streamline IP address management, provide automatic record keeping, centralize network configuration, and better enable remote desktop management.
  • Improve mobility of devices and the seamless transition of computers between home and office locations.
