From the bench to the clinic to the field, our faculty are making discoveries that help make a healthier world for animals and people. Check out some of their latest recently published research below:
- "Glucagon infusion alters the circulating metabolome and urine amino acid excretion in dogs,"published in the Journal of Endocrinology on June 27, 2024. Michael Merkhassine, Reilly W. Coch, Carol E.Frederick, Lucinda L. Bennett, Seth A. Peng, Benjamin Morse, Bethany P. Cummings, and John P. Loftus, present results that help understand and manage dysregulation of the hormone glucagon, and inform treatments impacting glucagon homeostasis.
- "Serum metabolome analysis in hyperthyroid cats before and after radioactive iodine therapy," published in PLoS One on June 10, 2024. Molly A. Bechtold, Yimei Lin, Meredith L. Miller, Jennifer M. Prieto, Carol E. Frederick, Lucinda L. Bennett, Mark E. Peterson, Kenneth W. Simpson, and John P. Loftus describe how hyperthyroid cats have a distinct metabolic signature with 277 significantly different metabolites compared to controls, opening new directions for diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for candidate biomarkers and persistent metabolic abnormalities.
- "Effect of continuous positive airway pressure helmet on respiratory function following surgical procedures in brachycephalic dogs: A randomized controlled trial," published in Veterinary Surgery on May 27, 2024. Joaquin Araos, Galina M. Hayes, Sarah A. Nugen, Derek Lao, Carol E. Fredericks, Andrea L. King, and Manuel Martin-Flores present a solution to improve gas exchange efficiency with the potential to enhance overall outcomes in brachycephalic dogs.
