Dr. Brian C. VanderVen, associate professor of microbiology and immunology, is studying Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) Mtb’s lipid transport system and characterizing how it functions. The research supported by this NIH R01 grant for $2.9 M will detail the biochemical mechanisms by which Mtb acquires host-derived nutrients. By determining whether these pathways have therapeutic potential, this research could generate new strategies and drug targets for fighting tuberculosis.

This research is supported by NIH Award Number:1R01AI150916-01
