Research Interests
My research interests are infectious diseases. Particularly, I'm interested in the microbiology of the Enterobacteriaceae and the microbial ecology of the intestinal tract; virulence mechanisms and pathogenesis of enteric bacterial infections, especially salmonellae, Helicobacter, Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter and E. coli; immunity to Salmonella infections; Salmonella epidemiology and control programs; antimicrobial resistance in bacteria; development of new diagnostic assays and media for use in veterinary clinical microbiology; development of biosensors for the rapid detection of microorganisms; the use of fatty acid methyl ester analysis (FAME) in the identification of bacteria and fungi; the molecular epidemiology of microorganisms (using fingerprinting techniques such as FAME, PFGE, ribotyping).
