Our mission at the Cornell Feline Health Center is to improve the lives of cats everywhere, and achieving this goal requires a multifaceted approach. While providing information and support to individual veterinary professionals and cat owners is extremely important, improving the welfare of cats as a population in the future is is paramount to our mission. This is why supporting basic scientific research is vital.
The knowledge and technology that we apply to improve feline health today has its roots in the basic research of the past, and the scientific discoveries of today will form the basis for improved diagnosis and treatment of feline diseases in the future. The Cornell Feline Health Center has been at the forefront of supporting this vital research for decades. From the development of a test to detect antibodies to feline coronavirus in the early 1980s to the recent identification of a unique genetic signature of the transformation of the relatively benign feline coronavirus to the routinely fatal feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) virus, the Center has been a driving force in the support of basic scientific research that directly impacts feline health.
2015-2016 Feline Health Center Grants
Scientists and clinicians at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine are invited to submit proposals for research funding every year. In 2015, the call for proposals will be announced in July and grant applications will be due in December. Applicants will be notified of the disposition of their applications in March 2016. Emerging Issues / Urgent Response Grants
To meet the challenges of newly emerging feline diseases, epidemics, and other possible imminent threats to the health of cats, the Cornell Feline Health Center supports research on emerging issues that can't wait for the regular grant cycle.
