Kotlikoff Lab

My laboratory focuses on the molecular processes underlying cardiac and smooth muscle cell development, function, and dysfunction.  Current projects in the laboratory include the study of the developmental basis for cardiac repair, including multipotent cardiovascular stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells, the development of electrical activity in the embryonic heart, and the basis of spontaneous rhythm in smooth muscle tissues.  We have developed and utilize methods that enable molecular scale measurements in mammals, in vivo, using mouse genetics, molecular design, and high resolution optics and are continuing to develop fluorescent protein –based genetic probes that report cell signaling events.
