Title: Long Chain Omega-3 Fatty Acids: A Potential Prophylactic Therapy for Dogs at Risk of Thromboembolism
Project Amount: $24,992
Project Period: 07/01/13-05/31/14

DESCRIPTION (Provided by Applicant): Dr. Fletcher is a board certified veterinary criticalist with an interest in disorders of fibrinolysis. His laboratory has 3 Thromboelastograph 5000 units (6 channels total) that will be used for all TEG assays. His previous work has included development of a novel in vitro assay of fibrinolysis using tissue factor activated TEGs with added fibrinolytic agents, allowing more thorough evaluation of fibrinolytic potential in plasma and whole blood than previously possible. Using this assay, his lab has produced evidence that therapeutic concentrations of anti-fibrinolytic agents in dogs are significantly higher than previously reported.
