I was born in 1991 and grew up in a village near Haarlem in the Netherlands. After finishing high school, I enrolled in Veterinary School at Utrecht University in 2009. After completing my pre-clinical veterinary training, I was selected to participate in the Honours Program. During this program, I have had the privilege to conduct research on canine cortisol-secreting adrenocortical tumors. Currently, I am in my first year of clinical rotations and I hope to graduate in 2016.
In my free time, I love playing sports. Since the age of 6 I have played field hockey. I also enjoy swimming, (ballroom) dancing and participating in various group lessons at the gym. I have to admit that I am addicted to several television shows such as “Game of thrones” and “The big bang theory”. In addition, I enjoy spending time with my friends, going out, and traveling.
After receiving my DVM degree, I wish to obtain a PhD degree and enroll in a residency program to become a companion animal internal medicine specialist. I’m particularly interested in areas in the veterinary science that unravel mechanisms behind human and animal disease, including, but not limited to, cancer. I would like to incorporate research, clinical practice, and teaching into my future.
